In 1990 and 1991, he was a guest scientist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, CO, working on the so-called high temperature superconductors. In 1993, he joined the Institute for Microand Optoelectronics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) where he was involved in research on the quantum Hall effect. Since 1996, he has been with the Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), Bern, where he is mainly engaged in work on electrical quantum metrology.
